Collection: On my needles...

Right now, I'm delving into the delightful world of thMizzoni Vest by Lindsay Degen and loving every stitch. We're shaking things up a bit by swapping out those classic and stark Mizzoni stripes for a crisp and dreamy gradient. I'm knitting with The September Kit plus a few oddball colorways pulled from my stash and one colorway that I dyed for just this occasion.

The September Kit was tailor-made for this project, so it's only fitting that I see this vision to fruition and knit myself a delicious little vest! This monthly kit has passed, but I already have plans for it to make a return in the future because I can't shake this color story. It's Refined and Inspired, with an undercurrent of Playful... which is basically my style goals in 3 words. lol

My hem colorway (Stoned Immaculate) didn't come from the September Kit though! I went rogue for that one because it seemed to snap the September Kit's creaminess into focus, without relying on a black, cream, or neutral for contrast (AKA ITS FUN). The warmth stops the lighter hues from being washed out, but it holds shit down in the background and sets the tone for the unexpected.

As I get to my neck and arm hole finishing, I may elect to bring in even a bit more color diversity into those parts. With the overall sense of organization that is coming from working in a gradient (even though it's a squirrelly gradient) I feel the freedom to bring a bit more play into the neck and arm holes. For added interest. I like to pack in as much excitement as I can into a garment, but stop right before it renders clown-like.

My gauge was a journey on this one and I am actually knitting a size Small on a US #2.5... I always seem to have a low grade sense of nerves when I work bottom-up garments that I want to fit just right. I have only tackled a few before, and this is definitely my first fingering weight sweater on #2.5 needles.. with some patterned stitch work which is new for me! I've officially settled in, realizing we are gonna be here awhile. The stripes have me clipping along and bringing this project with me everywhere I go lately.

I lost my mini of "Brine" at the Minneapolis Airport, so I just extended the stripe of "Cucumber" but whatever! There's no rules here.I've also added in a new hue that I am waffling on bringing into the shop... a mid-tone OOAK warm that I am calling Crabby Purps lol. I felt I needed a step between Mendocino Purps and Crab when I was working this vest, so I dyed a colorway that would sit right between the two. The result is a gummy and flat scarlet. I am really connecting to it in a way I didn't think I would...

It's not lost on me that this vest is a little maquette of the colors from my apartment/life/environment. I think that people tend to surround them with colors that feel like home, and the cross-over of those into wardrobe has always fascinated me.

My eye simply likes to look at what it likes to look at.

I still remember back when I was getting my BFA in fibers and painting, my textile professor constantly pointing between my outfits, my canvases, and my loom... they were always the same color families. It seems we simply exude the color stories we love. In this season, this is my color story. And I'm so stoked on it.

Knit yourself a Mizzoni Vest, this shit is fun and you'd look so freaking cute.

I've linked the colorways I'm working with below. While the September Mini Kits don't live in the shop anymore, you can still get these colorways on 50g and 100g dyed-to-order. Cheers from me and my happy needles!
